THE BENEFITS OF DENTURES

Dentures have two main benefits, mastication (the ability to chew) and aesthetics by replacing lost teeth, which in turn gives support to the lips and cheeks.

Dentures can look very natural and will give your smile a strong, healthy appearance.

Dentures can boost self-esteem and we have found that many of our patients feel more confident when wearing them.

Dentures may also benefit patients with poor phonetics; many patients are able to speak clearer and have improved pronunciation.

DENTURE CARE

Dentures should be brushed after removal at night and again before replacement the next day. They should be soaked in a glass of cold water when not being worn, possibly with the addition of special denture cleaning agents added to the water to help to remove stains and germs.

In some cases it is important to remove them every night to give gums a rest and be given the chance to be exposed to saliva, which helps to keep them healthy. In other cases it may benefit to wear dentures as much as possible to stabalise remaining teeth and reduce trauma caused from opposing teeth.

It is advisable to brush gums and the roof of the mouth every morning and evening to keep the mouth healthy. Regular check-ups should be arranged to ensure dentures still fit correctly and are in good condition.
